An email from the Nourishing the Planet project has just informed me that today is World Food Day. The designation, I’m told, commemorates the founding of the United Nation’s Food and Agriculture Organization.
I doubt World Food Day shows up the radar screen of many people involved in production agriculture in this part of the world. To us, every day is World Food Day.
Snarkiness aside, I’ll also point out that the www.worldfooddayusa.org web site talks about a “global movement to end hunger.”
There are honest differences of opinion about how to achieve that goal; I doubt those differences will ever be resolved fully. It’s also debatable whether the goal can ever be achieved fully. But I hope we all agree it’s a noble goal.
