I have two Christmas requests to make of you. One is selfish, the other is not.
The selfish one first: In the next few weeks, many of you will receive a form from the U.S. Department of Agriculture as part of the new U.S. Census of Agriculture. The Census, conducted once every five years, helps USDA get a better handle on farming and ranching around the country. The Census helps ag journalists, too, providing us with more useful statistics. The value of the Census increases when more farmers and ranchers complete the forms.
Now the unselfish request: Itt’s something most of you will do on your own without prompting from me. When Christmas arrives, enjoy it. For a day or two don’t think about drought or taxes or commodity prices or what you’re going to plant in the spring. Think instead about family and the Christmas season.
