Too much of a good thing?

The latest edition of the Minnesota State Cattlemen’s Association’s electronic newsletter includes twp news articles that look at the impact of high beef prices on consumer demand.

I’ve talked with beef cattle producers who worry that their product may become too expensive for consumers. I’ve talked with crop producers who have the same concern about their commodity.

High prices aren’t going to stop me from buying beef. But I grew up a cow-calf operation; I’ve owned cattle myself. I’m far from a typical consumer. If I were one, I might balk at paying more for beef.

It’s encouraging that farmers and ag commodity groups realize too much of anything, even high prices, isn’t necessarily a good thing.
