A few years ago, I phoned area crop insurance agents just prior to the annual March 15 deadline for purchasing or modifying crop insurance for spring-planted crops. I was curious about the trends and patterns they were seeing.
No luck. The agents’ secretaries and receptionists always said the agents — even ones who normally are helpful to the ag media — were just too swamped to visit with me.
Crop insurance agents will be swamped with work again this year. So, we won’t have a good handle on trends and patterns, if any, until after March 15.
But we do know the prices, for insurance purposes, at which most crops in the Upper Midwest have been set this growing season. Read my story online at http://www.agweek.com/event/article/id/20613/.
