Too hot, too dry, too long

I talked with a veteran farmer today. He received about half an inch of rain Thursday.

The rain helped his soybeans a little, he said.

“But we need a lot more rain in the next few days. And even if we get it, I don’t know how ┬ámuch good it would do. It’s just been too hot and too dry for too long,” he said.

He’s a positive guy, not prone to exaggeration or self pity, so his comments are a good sign that his crops have suffered.

I hope I’m wrong, but I suspect that what the farmer says about his soybeans will be true for a lot of area farmers this harvest.
