Making the best of a bad situation

October was filled with gray, wet days.that slowed harvest and frustrated area farmers. A lot of the crop remains in the field, and a great deal of work is ahead.

But in talking with farmers across the region over the past few days, I’ve been impressed by how much of the crop they were able to bring in. Producers worked around the delays, making the most of limited harvest opportunities.

Now, even a few days of favorable conditions would allow a fair chunk of the remaining crop to be harvested. The weather forecasts aren’t promising, however; early November appears to hold more gray, wet days.

To farmers who have finished harvest: congratulations. To farmers who continue to slog through the mud and moisture: good luck.
