This winter is shaping up to be one of the coldest on record in parts of the Upper Midwest. Conditions are bad enough for those of us who work in office buildings. It’s far worse, of course, for ranchers and others who spend hours each day out in the elements. For them, the challenge isn’t racing between the parking lot and the office. No, they battle the cold, snow and wind hour after hour, day after day, week after week. The physical, emotional and mental drain can be enormous.
I grew up with beef cattle in North Dakota, and I know what’s it like to feed cattle during cold, snowy winters. Just keeping roads open can be challenging.
So spare a kind thought for ranchers, and folks in other occupations, too, who are fighting through this cold, miserable winter. They’re the ones who really have it rough.
