I was driving through Agweek country this week when I spotted a farm vehicle stuck in a field. Horribly, terribly, deep-in-mud stuck. The driver, looking miserable, stood beside the vehicle.
I thought about stopping, but there was nothing I could do to help. I thought very briefly about getting a photo, but doing so would only have embarrassed the driver even more
Just about everyone who’s spent much time on a farm or ranch knows what it’s like to be stuck in the mud. It’s one of the worst feelings in agriculture, a combination of frustration, embarrassment and helplessness.
Our spring has been cool and wet, and more than a few farmers and farm business employees are getting stuck. If it happens to you, just remember you’re not the first and you won’t be the last.
