There was a time when a strong constitution was the most important attribute for farmers and ranchers. Hard physical labor — and lots of it — dominated their occupation.
No more. Yeah, there’s still physical labor involved, but brains are vastly more important than brawn in modern agriculture.
I’ll be looking in a future column at the skills, abilities and attributes that modern farmers need to succeed. I’m pretty sure I know what they are — but, hey, I’m definitely fallible aand maybe I’ve missed one or two.
